“Why didn’t you?”

Relief washed over Daniel as he saw the light beam falter, just for a moment. Soon it was as luminously foreboding as it had been before. But he’d gotten somewhere.

“You were watching me,” he said, moving slowly around her, keeping his distance from the dangerous finger, and watching her hard expression. “You watched me fuck every single one of your bimbos. He took a bounding step toward her. Time stood still while he did so, getting so close to the magical light that was to be his undoing - but utterly confident he was about to win.

Daniel grabbed her wrist. She gnashed her teeth at him. The light flared, then disappeared.

“You liked watching me, Elsinore.” He pulled her wrist gently. With no resistance, she stepped toward him - chest-to-chest with a human male for the first time in her entire existence.

He stood in the darkness of the grotto. His heart beat steadily. The only sound was that of the light wind over the water.

“You’re warm,” said Elsinore softly. Daniel looked down at her; she tilted her face up. She hardly looked like a semi-omnipotent Demigod anymore. The girl he held was curious, naive to the ways of men, and lusty.

He leaned down to kiss her. She shut her eyes and pursed her lips.

Daniel pulled away at the last moment.

“Sorry,” he said, with a little grin on his lips.

Elsinore blinked. With a flash of her fingers, the light burst back into the room. So much for their romantic darkness.

“SORRY!?” She yelled. “You had a chance with a Goddess, and you -“
